What it means
There are no spectators in Black Rock City. Everyone makes the city, and the city makes everyone.
'We achieve being through doing.' You become a burner by burning, not by watching.
Work is play here: cooking, building, greeting, and hauling water are all part of the art.

Every turtle has a shift — kitchen, water runs, shade patrol, oracle tent. Not as chores, but because doing is how you join. Our motto 'Move Slow & Bite Things' is participation with intention: engage deliberately, then commit with your whole beak.
First-burn tips
Sign up for at least one camp shift — it turns you from guest into family, fast.
Volunteer beyond camp too: Greeters, Lamplighters, Ice. Two hours = instant city citizenship.
Feeling awkward? Do the dishes. It's the universal entrance ticket to belonging.
